  1. How can I use Organic Maple Sugar?

    Because it pours just like granulated sugar, Solspring® Organic Maple Sugar can be used in place of white or brown sugar, or any other sweetener, in your coffee or tea, sprinkled on top of oatmeal, yogurt, buttered toast or in any bread and dessert recipe. Toss it with buttered popcorn for an at-home movie treat, or use in savory dishes, such as caramelized onions, roasted vegetables, and as a rub for grilling salmon or smoking meats.

  2. What makes Organic Maple Sugar organic – aren’t all maple sugars organic if they come from trees?

    In order for maple syrup and sugar to be Certified Organic, farmers must meet certain high standards, which include:

    • Synthetic chemicals are prohibited – fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and paints – anywhere near the maple trees for a minimum of three years before organic production can begin.
    • Buffer zones are required between the sugarbush (the forest and the land surrounding it) and land of a neighbor that uses chemicals.
    • Ecosystem diversity standards require at least 20% of the trees in a sugarbush to be a species other than sugar maple.
    • Written forest management plans must be maintained by the farmer, describing plans for diversity management, regeneration and biomass recycling.
  3. I’ve read that some maple product producers use animal fat or synthetic oils for defoaming during the boiling process. Do you use any of these?

    No, our producer only uses a small amount of organic safflower oil in the production process, making our Organic Maple Sugar completely vegan, non-GMO, and allergen and gluten free.
